Joy Fixes for Weary Parents

by Erin Leyba, PhD

This book is for anyone who is caring for and nurturing a family at any age along the way. It is easy to pick up and read one or more of the 101 ideas for building and sustaining relationships. Each of the ideas is two to three pages long, starting with a general description, then giving a real example of the idea in use, and ending with “TRY THIS.”

Some of the “fixes” will be just what you needed and others won’t appeal to you. Dr. Leyba has laid out sections that hold 11 to 15 ideas. Here are a few of the section titles: Design a Life You Love; Follow Your Intuition, Inspiration, and Truth; Ground and Center Yourself; Embrace the Quiet, the Slow; and the Simple; Build a Joyful Relationship with Your Partner; Build a Joyful Relationship with Grandparents; and more. There’s something in this book for everyone.

There is no particular order that you must read them. Just open the book and find one or two or more that fits your circumstance or mindset at the time. We all need a boost or a new way to look at things in family life, and Dr. Leyba has filled that bill with ideas for joy building. I recommend that you get this book and put it on your reading table or your nightstand so it’s handy for you to pick up and read a little whenever you have a minute.
