Part 2: Breaking the Barriers to Successful Montessori Inclusion

Part 2: Breaking the Barriers to Successful Montessori Inclusion

Building on our conversation about Myths of Inclusion, this week we will explore the barriers to full inclusion in Montessori classrooms and how we as a community can begin to “break barriers” as we serve an increasingly diverse group of learners at every level.

Join us in reflection as we explore the myths of inclusion with Montessori special educator and inclusion facilitator Christine Lowry.

Part 2: Breaking the Barriers to Successful Montessori Inclusion

Inclusion = Equity

Using the positive framing approach, shared by Charlie Biggs, we’ll explore how inclusive education is an equity approach rooted in social justice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion- we believe in the concepts. But what does diversity actually mean to us? As leaders of schools, teacher ed. programs, and classrooms, how do we understand what it means to respect and accept the full range of human diversity? What might we need to implement equity in our programs? What knowledge, what strategies, what skills would we need to gain? How do our schools, our classrooms, and our Montessori community work toward social justice?

Time for a Re-Set! Part 2

In this 2- part conversation, we will discuss the “burn-out” our teachers, and we as leaders, are experiencing as this school year comes to an end. Using a recent post from Edutopia “How Burned Out Are You? A Scale for Teachers, we can frame our conversation toward micro and macro ways to re-set from where we are to where we want to be. On the 8th, let’s add to the conversation with practices of “in- the- moment” techniques for self-calming that we can use to make choices with intention rather than just reaction. We’ll continue our conversation on the 15th with the macro choices we can make to “re-set” as we look toward renewal in our role as Montessorians.
