The Shelton School in Dallas, Texas is school, an evaluation center, and a speech-language clinic. In the early years, the school grew to offer classes through the 6th grade and then expanded to the 8th grade. Dr. Shelton was the Director until 1985. Another Director followed, and when she resigned in 1989, an interim director ran the school for one year. In 1990, Dr. Joyce Pickering became the Executive Director. Dr. Pickering brought the same training as Dr. Shelton, who had been one of her teachers. The school grew from 170 to the present 870 students. In 1991, the Outreach Center was added to the operation of Shelton. The Upper School was added in 2000. Shelton is now the largest school in the world for students with learning differences, offering services for children from early childhood through high school.
