Our Role in Ending Systemic and Internal Racism… Guided study and Dialogue Led by Dr. Cindy Acker
Vaccines, Masks, & Social Distancing…Where do we go from here?
Just when we are feeling a bit more comfortable about getting out, hugging, and gathering together, we are faced with a new challenge. We have spent the last year learning about public health, reading medical data, and exercising adaptive leadership. Now the new Delta variant has proved more contagious and potentially more severe than previous variants. What do we need to consider as we plan for the new school year? We’ll look at the most recent data and CDC as well as local recommendations. This will be an interactive discussion with the Montessori Foundation Panel and our participants.

Getting Back on Track…Establishing your Annual Agenda
Join Kathy Leitch and our Montessori Foundation Panel in this interactive session focused on how we get ourselves, our staff, and our schools back on track. How will we create the “new reality” as we move into a post-pandemic phase? We are still responsible for COVID safety measures and protocols as we continue to serve students who are not yet vaccinated… and there is an opportunity to look forward to our school year plans and goals with hope!
Looking at Gender Bias – Part 3
For many years, gender equality in the classroom has focused on girls, and rightly so. But all is not well in the new boyhood – and this needs our attention, now! Session II will take a look at how cultural norms still force boys into a traditional box that no longer serves them or society, how we might be inadvertently perpetuating stereotypes that harm boys, and what we can do so the next generation of men will be healthier, happier, and more gender-equal. We’ll also do a quick review of Session I, in case you missed it, and include resources for more learning.
Learning from and Building on Our Experiences during the Pandemic: An Appreciative Inquiry Approach
The past year was very difficult for educators, students, and families at all levels, and it posed particular challenges for Montessori schools. But at the same time, Montessori educators – and the Montessori community as a whole – did an incredible job responding to these challenges – finding and creating new ways to support each other, their students, and their families through these difficult times. This hands-on, interactive workshop will explore how Montessori educators can learn from and build on their experiences during the pandemic by using the principles and techniques of Appreciative Inquiry, a participatory, strength-based approach to individual and organizational development. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to Appreciative Inquiry and will focus primarily on a small-group breakout session and follow-up group sharing, during which participants will practice using Appreciative Inquiry to explore: a) The positive adjustments they made during Covid. b) What they learned from making these adjustments. c) How they plan to incorporate these lessons into their future work.

Helping Schools Collaborate with Therapeutic Resources
What happens when a student needs additional services? How do we best collaborate with professionals that may not be familiar with Montessori? How do we implement recommendations from service providers in our classrooms? In this webinar we will be discussing how to successfully integrate therapeutic resources (ex. Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, ABA, etc.) into our school environment and community. This will be an interactive session; we encourage questions, comments, and sharing of stories and resources. See you Wednesday! Brynn Rangel is a Board Certified and Licensed Behavior Analyst that has been working with individuals, families, schools and organizations since 2006. She is currently the Resource Specialist at Oneness Family School in Chevy Chase, MD and teaches for The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. Brynn has developed and taught courses for Montessori educators and administrators through the Montessori Foundation, The Center for Guided Montessori Studies, Westminster College and Sarasota University.
The Delicate Dance of Working With a Board of Trustees
The relationship of the head of school with the board of trustees is a bit schizophrenic! On the one hand, the head of school is the sole employee of the board. They are hired, evaluated, and sometimes terminated by the trustees. On the other hand, as the head of school knows more about their organization’s needs than anyone else, the most effective heads learn how to guide their board’s focus and energies at every turn. In this webinar, Kathy Leitch, Tim Seldin, and Jonathan Wolff will guide a discussion on how to best create a solid senior leadership team with your board.

The Montessori Way of School Leadership
Montessori is a philosophy of life, a model of ideal interpersonal relationships, and a system of traditions and practices that are effective and sustainable, leading to the development of highly effective, consistent and coherent, and stable Montessori schools at any age level. This week, we will explore the difference between our personal styles and the underlying principles that inform the effective leadership of a true Montessori school.
What’s trust got to do with it? PART 2
Trust is the essential ingredient in all of our relationships and at the root of how organizations are perceived. Trust is also essential to effective leadership. We talk about school accreditation as “worthy of public trust,” we “trust” that our staff will come to work each day, and we “trust” ourselves to honor our commitments. Of course, there are times when trust is jeopardized and times when reparations are necessary. How do we build up reserves and invest in our staff and our organization to ensure our capacity for resilience, empowerment, and service.

Looking at Gender Bias, Gender Equality in the Classroom Part I
We want children to be treated as individuals, yet gender stereotypes are pervasive, boxing children into behaviors and roles unsuited for them. What to do? Where to start? In this first of a four-part series, we’ll talk about recognizing gender bias in children, parents, and ourselves. Following sessions will look at gender fluidity, the new boyhood, “tomboys and sissies,” and more. This will be an interactive session; we encourage questions, comments, and sharing of stories and resources.
Creating Social Norms and Team Agreements the Montessori Way
As we begin emerging from the past year of crisis management, adaptive leadership, and COVID protocols, it is time to start thinking about getting back on track. How will we reset and reboot with buy-in from staff, parents, and students? Creating a school community that embraces a Montessori culture throughout our operations and interactions requires an intentional, cohesive plan. Join us as our Montessori Foundation panel shares a process for leading your school community into the “post-pandemic” future. This will be an interactive session; we encourage questions, comments, and sharing of stories and resources.
Year round School, What about my Summer Vacation: Part 2
Let’s hear from an expert! Mary Beth Ricks, Head of School at the Bowman School in Palo Alto, CA. will share her experiences and wisdom. Bowman has successfully implemented a year-round program for 25 years. Join us to learn more about the specifics, logistics, and joys of this approach. This will be an interactive session; we encourage questions, comments, and sharing of stories and resources.
