What Forward-Thinking School Leaders Are Doing to Get Ahead of the Wave In Planning the Rest of this School Year and Beyond . . .
In a recent Harvard Business Review article, entitled Learning from the Future, author J. Peter Scobie, suggests, “The best scenario planning embraces a decidedly non-linear conception of time. It treats thinking about the future as an essential component of taking action in the present.” As we inch closer to the halfway point of the school year – a year that continues to be filled with uncertainty, volatility, and risk – Montessori leaders are facing some very tough decisions about programming and staffing amid fluctuating rates of COVID and uncertain enrollment; staffing for the summer program and next school year; budget planning including compensation and tuition increases. How forward-thinking heads are preparing their school communities NOW for the months and years ahead will be the topic of this week’s leadership conversation.

So,your three year old is off to school for the first time and you’re very excited. You want to know what she did and who she met and what the teachers were like. So you ask. Your child either looks at you like you have two heads and says nothing or maybe responds with, “I don’t know.” Or you have an 8 year old who was always happy to share about school and friends and now suddenly stops. Or you have a budding adolescent who is reticent when asked about his day. Lorna has some hints for parents who struggle with getting answers to, “What did you do at school today?”

On July 26, 2017, our webcast topic was “What’s Going to Be Different This School Year?”
Guiding Staff to Look at Themselves, Their Classrooms, and Professional Relationships With Fresh Eyes
What would happen if every teacher and staff member in your school were to start the year with the attitude, “This is the beginning of something new, something different, something truly special? What happened last year is behind us. From day one this is going to be a better place to learn and work – because I am committed to bettering myself.” What might be different about your Montessori program and school community if everyone expressed this sentiment on the last day of prep week?
How transformative leaders kindle enthusiasm and a commitment to relinquishing old habits and hurts, in order to stimulate better teaching, stronger relationships, and a more peaceful community, is the topic of this week’s webinar. Guiding our conversation will be Kathy Leitch, Tanya Ryskind, and Jonathan Wolff
Remember, we store videos of all of our webcasts and much more in The International Montessori Council member’s resource center. If you or your school are not members yet, you should look into it.
stage.montessori.org/IMC.The IMC offers great benefits, especially to schools, and is very affordable because of its connection to the Montessori Foundation. It only takes a moment to join online.
